Wakesurf Board Sizing
Size plays a big role in how the board performs behind the boat. If the board is too small for your weight, it’ll sink, making it harder to stay in the wave and slowing your progression. On the flip side, a board that’s too big can feel sluggish and harder to turn. The right fit strikes a balance between float and control—giving you the best ride possible.
Here's a general guide to wakesurf board sizing:
- Riders under 100 pounds: 3'6" - 4'2" wakesurf board
- Riders 100-150 pounds: 4'2" - 4'10" wakesurf board
- Riders 150-200 pounds: 4'10" - 5'4" wakesurf board
- Riders 200-250 pounds: 5'4" - 5'10" wakesurf board
- Riders over 250 pounds: 5'10" + wakesurf board
These numbers are just a starting point. The right wakesurf board size can vary depending on a few other key factors—like your riding style, skill level, and the size of the wave your boat creates. For example, surf style boards tend to have more volume and buoyancy, so riders generally size up a bit compared to skim boards. That added float helps with carving and staying in the wave pocket, especially on smaller or softer waves. Skim style boards, on the other hand, are thinner and more responsive, so you can often ride a slightly smaller board—perfect for tricks and spins once you’re more comfortable behind the boat.
